Have you often found yourself looking at your teeth in the mirror and wishing they were a little more white in appearance? Perhaps you’ve got a few teeth problems that you’ve not addressed and it’s starting to show in your smile?

It’s easy enough to become self-conscious of your appearance, especially when it comes to your smile. After all, it’s an obvious area of the body that most people will see on a daily basis. With that in mind, if you’re looking for a healthier smile and teeth in general, here are some top tips on how to achieve that.

Brush, floss, and use mouthwash

While brushing is a given, not everyone spends their time flossing or using mouthwash. Why are they important you ask? Well, brushing will only do so much to clean your mouth. In order to make sure those teeth sparkle and shine, you’ll want to go in with both floss and mouthwash.

Floss is important for getting in between the teeth and where your brush bristles are unable to reach. The mouthwash disinfects your mouth in its entirety, as well as cleans your tongue, a place that holds most of the bacteria.

With that in mind, make sure you’re brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash every day - twice or three times where possible!

Make sure you’re timing your brushing

Brushing is something that can become a chore and you may find yourself rushing your way through the process. It’s important that you’re timing your brushing so that you get the full amount of time to get in and around your teeth, gums, and tongue.

Ideally, each brushing session should take around two minutes to do. From the gums to the teeth and everything in between. Set a timer on your phone so that you stick to that time every time you brush.

See the dentist regularly

Just like an apple a day keeps the doctor away, visiting your dentist annually will hopefully avoid any unexpected visits back.

Seeing a dentist is important because they are able to spot any underlying problems that you may not have noticed. Perhaps you have but you’ve been a little nervous to get into the dentist's chair sooner. It’s important to visit your dentist at least once a year and when you have problems with your teeth, you get them seen to as soon as you can.

Try dental treatments

Dental treatments come in all different forms from teeth whitening to braces. You may want to try out clear aligners as these are often recommended for those who want to straighten their teeth without going through the hassle of having permanent braces on their teeth.

Do your research on what’s out there and more importantly, speak to your dentist before preceding with any treatments.

Limit your sugar intake

Sugar is going to rot your teeth and so it’s important you’re being careful with how much you’re consuming every day. To avoid your teeth getting damaged any more than they might be currently, limit your sugar intake.

These tips will hopefully lead to a healthier set of teeth and a smile that’s brimming with confidence for 2023.
