Do you ever have those moments when you stand in front of the mirror and while your outfit seems okay, there is still something missing? I have that at least twice a week and in my experience, the answer is usually in some sort of accessory. A nice bag, a pair of beautiful earrings or a scarf can change the whole vibe of your outfit. There is so much to talk about when it comes to accessories but for this article, I want to focus on silk square scarves and how they can make you look effortlessly classy.

Silk scarves have other functions too

To look classy with a silk scarf, you need to keep in mind that besides hanging around your neck, silk scarves can be used in many other ways. As a matter of fact, the best thing about silk scarves is that they are very versatile and can become anything from a belt to a top. Not all these new adaptations of silk scarves will give you the classy look you are aiming for but it’s worth experimenting.

To help you out, here are some options that 100% guarantee a classy vibe:

#1 Hang it around your neck

You can never go wrong with a simple silk scarf around your neck look. As in the picture, I recommend going with minimalist shirts/dresses and wearing a scarf with beautiful and unique prints on it as a highlight. With this option, you don’t have to worry about tying, just like the title says, effortlessly classy.

#2 Wear it as a hair band

Styling hair with a silk scarf can go two ways - a. You will have a wild, safari girl kind of look and b. Classy, New York fashion magazine kind of look. Since we are discussing classy looks, let me share my two favorite ways of using a silk scarf to style hair. The first one is the simple ponytail when instead of a scrunchie, you use a silk scarf. It’s beautiful, elegant and needless to say, rather easy.

My second favorite is the vintage hair wrap look. This is a bit risky as it requires an outfit that speaks with it and also conveys that vintage vibe. Pair it with sunglasses and red lipstick, and you’ve got yourself a classy 70s look.

#3 Tie it to your bag

Quite possibly the easiest thing you can do with a silk scarf to look elegant is to tie it to your bag. It’s such a small thing but makes a very big difference in your outfit. Whether it’s a small purse or a big one, a nice silk scarf will completely change its look.

Choose the scarf then the outfit or vice versa?

A question that comes up a lot when it comes to styling an accessory is - which one do I pick first, the outfit or the accessory? Considering that accessories are supposed to add to the look and not be it, the answer is to choose the outfit and then add jewelry, belts, glasses, etc. However, if you have a limited choice of accessories in this case, a silk scarf, I’d recommend thinking of an outfit based on it.

The silk scarf can become that central classy element on which you build your whole outfit. Especially when you have one or two silk scarves, then it’d be a good idea to mentally (or even physically) go through your clothes and think what items in your wardrobe can complement the scarf (and vice versa). It’s a bit unorthodox but hey, if it works, it works, right? The easiest thing you can do is match your silk scarf with one of your bags.

Follow the trends

A true fashionista always stays updated on the new trends. Silk scarves are a classic and have been around for a very long time, so people are trying to find new and creative ways of using them. Just recently, there was a big trend of wearing them as a top, so keep an eye out for new classy trends that you like and try them out for yourself.

I’d also recommend to follow the biggest brands of the market that have silk scarves in their collection like Hermes. It is not a way of styling but new prints and shapes can add a lot to your look.

Don’t be afraid of experiments

Taste is very subjective and what may seem classy to me can look very casual or very extravagant to you, so go get your silk scarf and play around with it. Whether it’s tied to your bag or styled in your hair, silk scarves are magical accessories and yet another proof that you don’t have to have a gigantic wardrobe to look classy.
