Role of diet in Skincare.jpg

The Role of Diet in Skincare

Maintaining radiant and healthy skin requires so much more than applying natural face oils and other topical products. A proper skincare routine must be complemented with the right skin diet to ensure that the skin is healthy from the deepest layers to the one on the surface. For example, if natural face oils keep the outer skin cleansed and moisturized, then the healthy fatty acids in salmon are needed to support radiant-looking skin.

Healthy skin diet

In addition to the balanced diet in the shape of a pyramid that was taught in elementary school, there are particular kinds of food filled with the right amount of nutrients that make up a healthy skin diet.

  • Vitamin A

Vitamin A is an important mineral to be consumed in a healthy skin diet. Low-fat dairy products such as yogurt and vegetables like carrots and sweet potatoes are excellent sources of the fat-soluble vitamin. Other food with live bacteria and enzymes keeps digestion functioning optimally and leads to radiant-looking skin.

  • Salmon

Fatty acids help make the body's cell membranes healthy and reduce inflammation of the skin. The stronger a cell membrane is, the better its capacity to hold moisture will be, hence the skin will be youthful. Omega-3 and 6 are the best types of fatty acids and can be found in fish like salmon, walnuts, and flaxseed oil.

  • Eggs

The skin, which is made up of 25 percent protein, relies on the macronutrient to repair and regenerate damaged skin cells. Just like natural face oils that are rich in essential nutrients, eggs are a great source of protein that can be consumed by those on a low-fat or low-cholesterol diet.

  • Avocado

Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin found in avocados that protects dry skin by giving it a boost of hydration and moisture. The fruit is also capable of enhancing the body's ability to absorb all kinds of nutrients.

  • Water

Water is another healthy skin diet secret that is often taken for granted. There is a reason why humans need at least eight cups of water a day. Clean and mineral-filled water keeps the skin elastic, hydrated, and plump while flushing out harmful substances from the body.

Collagen secrets

Collagen is currently making waves in the skincare industry. The reason for its sudden popularity lies in its benefits and importance. Collagen is the most abundant protein that is present in the body and is the primary building block of the skin. The body has the natural ability to produce collagen, although production levels decrease as people age; hence the formation of wrinkles and saggy skin. The best way to maintain youthful skin is to ensure that one's diet aids in the creation of collagen.

A balanced diet of eggs, nuts, whole grains, leafy vegetables, and fresh fruits helps in collagen production. Although most foods do not contain collagen in its raw form, a healthy skin diet consists of the right nutrients that activate the body's natural processes of making collagen or adds an extra layer of protection over the skin to preserve the existing amount of collagen.

Final Takeaway

It is a person's responsibility to complement the efforts of topical products with a healthy diet. Aside from natural face oils, one may apply the most expensive and potent moisturizers, serums, or creams, but if they follow an unhealthy and unbalanced diet, the skin will still suffer. So, a skin diet should be included in your skincare regime.
