Skincare Rules Every Teen Should Live By

Skincare can be confusing as hell, especially for teenagers. There are so many products on offer and almost everything makes your skin break out. How do you know what is right for your skin? Everybody’s skin is different. But, things are particularly tough for teens with their hormones going crazy. These are a few skincare rules that every teen should follow for a healthy and acne-free skin.

Examine Your Skin

You need to get to know your skin before you take measures to improve it. Start by identifying the type of skin you have. There are different face washes for kids and teens for different skin types. Knowing your skin type will help you understand the kind of skin regime it needs and the products to look for.

Common skin care categories among teens include sensitive, dry, normal, oily, and acne-prone. Depending upon your skin type you should look for a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer that best suits you. It’s critical to note that your skin may also be a combination of these categories. It is natural for the categories to change during the year. You may have an oily skin in summers but a dry one during the winters.

Cleanse Regularly

You need to cleanse every morning and night with a face wash for kids or teens. You can use a specialized cleanser as well, but those are generally on the expensive side. Cleansing regularly helps to remove excess oil buildup and impurities, including dirt from your skin pores. Make sure you don’t confuse cleansing with scrubbing. Keep away the rough particles from your skin. That will just lead to excess oil production and more problems.

In the morning use a gel or foam formula to clean your skin. Don’t forget to pat dry and use a light moisturizer. In the night, you should double cleanse. This will remove any dirt, debris, makeup, and SPF from your skin. Try using warm water for cleansing your skin.

Don’t Forget to Exfoliate

While you should keep away from products containing rough particles, using a natural exfoliator is a great way to maintain skin happiness. Look for clay containing products designed specifically for teen skin. Clay has a natural astringent and antiseptic property. Selecting the right face wash for kids and teens can go a long way.

Try not to exfoliate more than 2 times a week. Over-exfoliation can cause your acne to become worse by irritating the skin. You need to be as gentle as possible while exfoliating your skin or the dead cells will clog your pores.

Eat Right

What you eat is what shows up on your face. Teenagers are prone to acne. So, stay away from food stuff that can cause excess oil production or acne. Many experts recommend staying away from dairy because of milk protein which can cause acne. Try soy, oat, or almond milk instead. You should also consider staying clear of starchy or sugary foods.

Sugar causes inflammation in the body and can add to your woes. Instead, eat things that are full of good fats, such as avocados, nuts, and salmon.
