Sun Protection Tips from Dr. Jwala Karnik
By Carla Snuggs

Sunscreen can protect your skin against skin cancer and premature aging, but it’s very important that you know how to apply sunscreen properly. Don’t get burned! Posh Beauty Bog tapped leading skincare expert Jwala Karnik, MD., Chief Medical Officer at Suneva Medical, Inc. for expert sunscreen tips. Keep reading for Dr. Karnik’s sun protection tips:

Tip 1:  Keep an eye on the clock

The sun is strongest between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you’re planning to be outdoors during that time, wear sun-protective clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and sunglasses as an added layer of defense.

Tip 2: Lather it on early, and often

Don’t wait until you’re in the sun to apply protection, your skin needs 20 minutes to absorb it completely. Don’t forget to re-apply it every few hours, or more frequently if needed.

Tip 3: Double up certain spots

A one ounce shot glass is enough to cover your entire body. However, adding a second coat to your nose, lips, hands, ears and the tops of your feet is important, as these areas tend to burn more easily.

Tip 4: Moisturize with SPF

Apply a moisturizer with SPF to prevent sun spots, freckles, and early signs of aging. To reduce signs of aging while protecting from added damage, consider Regenica® Day Repair with SPF 15 to protect skin from harmful UV rays. It’s also the only UV protectant formulated with CCM, a next-generation growth factor technology that signals your skin’s natural repair and renewal mechanisms.
