At one time, body art or tattoos were frowned upon. However, there has been more acceptance of body art over time. That also includes having a variety of body piercings. At one time, it was only acceptable to have one piercing in each ear. However, nowadays, it is common to have multiple piercings on both ears, as well as having a pierced tongue, naval area, and a pierced nose.

Many celebrities wear tattoos like Angelina Jolie, David Draiman of Disturbed, Justin Timberlake, Johnny Depp, and so many others. It is safe to say that body art is not only more accepted, but appreciated.

Let's look at the pros and cons of body art in general:

Pros Of Body Art

The fact of the matter is that everyone has a way to express themselves. Some people do it with a funky hairstyle, and others do it through the clothing that they wear. It is a known fact that people can only express themselves in ways that words cannot. And, the best way to really be expressive is through the tattoos you can wear on your body. Tattoos are popular for this one reason alone- you are given an opportunity to really show everyone what you are about and who you are.

In fact, many people who suffer from mental illnesses have tattoos of the semicolon. That represents that despite their challenges with mental illness, they are continuing to live their lives the best way possible.

However, the one thing to keep in mind is if you want to have a tattoo of something that you are passionate about, then the first thing to think about is whether you will be passionate about the same thing in a decade from now. If you are unsure, then it is best to not get a tattoo that represents that thing. That is why it is also not a good idea to have a lover's name or initials tattooed because what if the relationship does not last?

That said, even though there are positive aspects to body art, there are also disadvantages as well that should be discussed.

The Cons Of Body Art

You already know that tattoos are painful to get, and are also permanent. However, even so, it can be removable. But in order for that to happen, you will have to end up facing laser tattoo removal pain which is not pleasant either.

And aside from that, if you end up getting a tattoo and you have a bad reaction from it, then it can put your health at risk. You may have a severe allergy to tattoo ink without even realizing it. There are other diseases that can be spread from the needles that are being used for tattoos. Even though only using sterilized needles is the law- some tattoo artists may not abide by the law.

That said, if you really want to get a tattoo, then you will want to make sure that you do the following.

  • Go to an allergist. You will want to find out if you are allergic to any kind of tattoo ink. It is better to find out beforehand before ending up with an unpleasant surprise when you break out into hives or end up having a much worse reaction.

  • Find the most reputable artist in your area. Don't go to the first tattoo artist that you find online. Do your homework and ask questions about the most recommended artist in the city. And remember, a good quality tattoo artist will only use the best materials and will only use safe and sterilized needles.

You want to have the best experience possible when it comes to you being able to express yourself through body art!
