Should You Wear Perfume To The Gym?

The question of whether you should wear perfume to the gym or not is another one of those conflicting topics with divided opinions. Whilst some people support wearing perfume to the gym, others strictly do not. Well, to help you make up your mind, below is an outline of some facts about fragrances at the gym.

Perfume At The Gym – A Yay Or Nay?

The environment in the gym is sometimes not as ventilated especially during peak times when everyone is trying to grab the last treadmill or heading off to the spin class. People are sweating. People are hyperventilating. And people are taking up space. So you want as minimal interference as possible to the already cramped ventilation. The last thing you want is to be wearing overpowering colognes or perfumes to distract other people.

Remember, some of the gym members are even allergic to strong scents. However, putting all of this into considerations, you still don't have to limit your choices. If you don't want to wear perfume that's fine. And if you want to wear perfume you can. The best way to go about the latter decision is to wear lightly fragranced perfume that will not distract others.

What Scents To Wear At The Gym?

Some of us can be quite particular or even paranoid about how we smell all the time. So, wearing perfume even at the gym can become a necessity. This is also fine. The key is to know what perfume to wear at the gym and which ones to avoid. You can choose the two distinct types of fragrances to wear at the gym without turning heads (the wrong way!).

Perfume Types

When you are about to hit the gym and want to refresh so you are not smelly after a workout, you should pick perfume types that are ideal for the gym. Typically, eau de fraiche is a better option compared to parfum, eau de parfum or eau de toilette. This is because eau de fraiche is a lighter variant of fragrances.

Parfum contains up to 25% fragrance oils, eau de parfum contains up to 20% fragrance oils whilst eau de toilette contains up to 15% fragrance oil concentration. This means that these perfumes contain a higher fragrance concentration and will ultimately, boast a more intense smell. Additionally, these fragrance types will also last longer on your skin and can easily transfer on to gym equipment that comes in contact with your skin.

Eau de fraiche on the other end is fragrance water. A good example of eau de fraiche is body mist. Eau de fraiche contains no more than a 3% fragrance concertation. So it makes for a great fragrance to refresh with. Its faint smell will not diffuse throughout the room and it will only work to refresh your body. Eau de fraiche will also last within an hour.

Fragrance Notes

If you opt to go for perfumes, be it eau de parfum or eau de fraiche, fragrance notes also matter. Different fragrance notes work differently. Always invest in a light fragrance notes to wear the gym. Perfume notes such as aqua and citrus are a good idea.

In addition to the overall light fragrance notes, you should also focus on choosing the right base notes. Remember that the base notes of your fragrance will last longer on your skin than the top and middle notes. Fragrance base notes such as vanilla or musk are not the best option because they tend to be strong and last longer. Instead, opt for lighter base notes. You can’t go wrong with citrus perfume.

Try Other Fragranced Products

To cut down the intensity of your perfume fragrance, you can also opt to go for lighter fragranced products. So rather than applying eau de parfum or strong colognes pre-workout, you can shower with a lightly fragranced shower gel or freshen up with a lightly fragranced lotion.

And if you don’t want to use any of these grooming products the next best options are fragranced wipes. Take the wipes with you to the gym. And as you work out, you can take a few breaks to freshen up by wiping yourself with the wipes to mask out the unpleasant smells. simply remember to shower after you are done!

Anti Perspirant

And if you are scared of smelling as a result of sweating, strong perfumes and colognes are not necessarily the solution. So rather than dousing your body with these strong fragrances, you should instead go for antiperspirants.

You can choose to go for deodorant sticks or unscented roll-on antiperspirants. These products are enough to keep you fresh as you work out without you getting all smelly. Plus, it saves the rest of the gym from the unpleasant mix of strong perfumes and sweat.

Consider Other Circumstances

However, sometimes you may find yourself in circumstances whereby you cannot circumvent the application of the perfume. With our ever-changing world, our schedules have become quite demanding. Yet, this doesn't mean that you should live a healthy life. So sometimes you may find yourself having to squeeze your gym time after a business meeting.

And the perfume you wore for the meeting may have not dissipated yet. This shouldn't be a problem. after all, you've worn the perfume for a couple of hours anyway, so the scent intensity shouldn't be as strong. However, you can do so, you can also choose to wear lighter fragrances on days you know you will be hitting the gym so you don't end up being the designated turd at the gym that day.

If you choose to wear perfume at the gym, the ultimate solution is knowing how to do so. There’s a thin line between a pleasant-smelling perfume and an offensive one when you are ta the gym. You don't want to have the latter perfume on. So before you decide which perfume to wear at the gym, giving a good test drive to see how it works.
