5 Top Styling Tricks to Help Prevent Frizzy Hair

Anyone can get frizzy hair. It doesn’t matter what color your hair is, whether it’s curly, or even if it’s generally straight, it can get frizzy. Frizz occurs when moisture gets into the follicle of your hair, causing it to swell. This increases the water content and wave in the hair, making it appear frizzy.

Although everyone can get frizzy hair, there are several styling tips you can implement to prevent this from being an issue in the future.

1. The Right Product

You have a choice when selecting hair care products, the cheapest, or the one that works. In most cases, it’s better to go with the one that works. The right products are designed to eliminate or protect against frizz without damaging your hair. You’ll need to choose high-quality products, such as the Kerastase range, this will ensure your hair is protected from excess moisture and won’t end up frizzy.

2. Using The Correct Tools

A brush and a wide-toothed comb are not a good choice when styling your hair as these will reduce the stress your hair is placed under. But, they will also create static electricity. That’s going to encourage frizz, especially when you’re in a humid environment.

Instead, you should use a wooden comb and only use it on wet hair. Don’t forget that wet hair is more fragile, proceed with caution.

3. Don’t Brush When Dry

Wet hair is more easily damaged than dry hair. However, if you brush dry hair you’ll be increasing the volume and effectively increasing the possibility of it becoming frizzy.

If you’ve dried your hair and it needs additional styling you should use your finger, these are natural and less likely to result in frizzy hair. Of course, running your hand through your hair too many times can also damage the hair leading to issues. Keep it to a minimum.

4. Minimize Heat

Heat is not your friend. Hot styling tools will damage the outer layer of your hair. This will allow excessive levels of water in which will make it much easier for your hair to frizz in humid environments.

Of course, hot styling products will also damage your hair as they’ll dry it out. In dry environments, it will quickly become dry and brittle. Neither is desirable!

5. Don’t Over Wash

The right anti-frizz product can help to prevent frizz. But, did you realize that washing your hair too often can damage its protective layer and cause it to be dry and brittle? The same issue causes frizz in high-humidity environments.

In short, washing your hair too often will make it more likely to become frizzy. Instead, stick to a dry shampoo between washing your hair and you’ll quickly notice the difference.

The perfect solution is different for everyone as it depends on how often your hair is exposed to high-humidity. But, being aware of the basic steps will allow you to prepare yourself and hopefully avoid getting frizzy hair in the first place. That’s more efficient than dealing with the frizz at the most inappropriate moment.
