Why You Should Use Organic Shampoos

The Rise of Organic Shampoos
By Bluma Marcus

The health benefits of using an all natural organic shampoo include thicker hair and healthier hair follicles. Natural oils havebeen used since ancient times to enhance our appearance in a safe and healthy fashion. But similar to the food supply, modern shampoos have been altered to the point where the natural, more expensive ingredients have been exchanged for cheaper, artificial chemical ones. While the laboratory has managed to create wonderfully fragrant shampoos that are really simple to use, it has also created the side effects that come along with long term use of these products.

The advantage of using a purely organic shampoo goes beyond beauty and smooth hair. Dermatologists who see people with itchy facial eczema or unsightly flakey dandruff suggest avoiding shampoos that contain artificial chemicals. These irritate the scalp and skin, causing uncomfortable reactions.  They recommend checking the label carefully when purchasing shampoo, looking for two specific ingredients to avoid: sulfates and phthalates (fragrance).

Sulfates are the chemicals added to most shampoos and soaps to make them foam. They create that luxurious lather that makes you feel like you are getting a true deep clean. They have no power to disinfect or remove dirt. But they are irritants and they do cause your eyes to burn. Who needs that in their shampoo?

Phthalates are even worse. They are chemicals used to create plastics, and used in shampoos as a gelling agent. They also lurk in the fragrance that makes your typical shampoo smell so good. But it is common knowledge that they are also hormone disrupters. So why is this beingput on scalps?

Just like one takescare to feed theirfamilies and themselvesonly the healthiest foods,  one must also take care to  only use pure organic shampoos, conditioners and soaps. The ingredient list should be easy to pronounce and edible too.

Try Pura d'or all natural shampoo and conditioner products. They contain no sulfates or phthalates.  The secret is in the organic essential oils that make up the bulk of the ingredients.  So while itmay not foam as well, there is peace of mind knowing that chemicals are not entering the body and that the result will be thick, full, beautiful hair.

It’s time for people to start reading the label on soap and shampoo bottles. Make sure the itchiness and flakiness isn’t from the sulfates and chemical fragrance found in household beauty products. The care and kindness given to the hair can have far reaching effects. As is well known, for change to be effective it needs to start at the top.
