What To Wear on a Cruise

You've scheduled your cruise, and your travel dates are coming up quickly. The only thing you have left to do is to pack your suitcase. What should you put in it, though? Whether you're a cruise veteran or have never been on one before, check out these ideas for must-have items to pack.

Swimsuit

Ever since your booked your cruise, you've probably spent time planning your activities. Talking to friends who have been before, searching on the web for things to do in St Maarten, reading through travel materials — you may have found a hundred activities to do on your vacation. One of the things on your list, if you're headed to a warm-weather destination, is probably swimming.

Whether you're at the pool onboard or visiting a beach at a port of call, your trip isn't complete without a swimsuit (or two, or three). Find something that's comfortable and fits your sense of style so that you won't mind spending hours lounging in it.

Swimsuit Coverup

Occasionally, you may leave the poolside to grab a drink or go to your stateroom. You'll need a coverup to walk around the ship. Find something you'll be comfortable walking around in through common areas.

Walking Shoes

Fitness classes, strolling around the ship, touring ports of call while on foot call for a pair of walking or athletic shoes. You don't want to have blisters before the cruise is over.

Flip Flops

The essential beach footwear is a must for your suitcase. Flip flops protect your feet from hot sand and give you something to put on your feet when walking to and from your stateroom.

Sandals or Dress Shoes

Some occasions, such as an evening dinner in the dining room or a trip to the theater, call for something dressy. Try on a few pairs of shoes with your outfits before you leave home. You may want to narrow your choices to one or two pairs so that you don't overstuff your luggage.

Dress-Casual Clothing

Many cruises have an evening dress code that includes "smart casual" attire. These outfits can consist of nice denim jeans, button-down or sports shirts with collars, casual dresses and dress pants.

Sweater, Shawl or Wrap

Cool evening breezes after a day in the sun can send a chill up your spine. A light wrap is a perfect thing to toss around your shoulders. Choose one or two neutral wraps that match any outfit so that you can conserve space in your suitcase. Staying warm and comfortable can help you enjoy stargazing from the ship's deck or watching a show in a chilly theater.

Sunglasses

Be sure to pack a few pairs of sunglasses for your cruise. Most of your days are spent in the sun, and you need eye protection. Besides, sunglasses are the perfect accent for a beachy outfit.

Wide-Brimmed Hat

Protect your face from the harsh rays with a hat. A baseball cap or visor can also keep the sun out of your eyes. Whatever headwear fashion you choose, be sure to pair it with plenty of sunscreen. Getting sunburned on your vacation can put a damper on the fun.

Comfortable Clothing

During the day, comfort is the name of the game on a cruise. Shorts, T-shirts and tank tops are excellent for daytime pool lounging or casual dining at lunchtime. You can dress up a little during the day, of course, but it's good to pack a comfortable outfit or two.

Jewelry

Accessorize your evening attire with a few stunning pieces of jewelry. Keep it simple and choose a few versatile pieces to match any ensemble, or go all out and bring a set of jewelry for every outfit — the choice is yours.

Packing for your vacation shouldn't be stressful, so contact a customer representative for your cruise line if you have questions about what to wear on your cruise. Before you know it, you'll be enjoying all the fun a cruise offers, and you'll be perfectly dressed for the occasion.
