The benefits of CBD in skincare and Cannatera skincare products
By Carla Snuggs
CBD is everywhere these days and if you’re like me, you’re curious to learn all about it and its benefits. What is CBD and how is it being used in beauty products? As you may know if you’ve been following me, my biggest skincare issues are dry skin, eczema flare-ups, dullness and anti-aging concerns.
Can CBD skincare products help? To find out more, I tapped Diane Elizabeth, beauty expert and founder of the blog Skin Care Ox. Diane gave me the scoop on the use of CBD in skincare so that you can make great choices and glow. Knowledge IS power.
CBD and Skin Care
When it started: CBD is a naturally occurring plant compound that comes from the cannabis plant and it is proven to be relaxing and pain-relieving when taken internally. But research has shown that it has calming and therapeutic benefits when applied topically to the skin. For all of these reasons, it makes sense that CBD has been hitting the skincare industry hard since 2016 when the FDA eased up on requirements to allow research on CBD. That said, skincare products and CBD really took off this past summer.
The benefits: CBD helps you relax, even when applied topically. CBD products can also help with acne issues in some cases that are less severe. CBD helps to reduce inflammation, therefore helping with acne inflammation and blemishes that cause acne. CBD is safe for all skin types, but especially those suffering from skin sensitivity, inflammation, headaches and dry skin. Because of its powerful anti-inflammatory properties, CBD can help support the skin’s natural healing process, shortening the lifespan of breakouts and eczema/psoriasis flare-ups.
The results: Dermatologists have stated that they're seeing great results with CBD-based products. On top of the benefits of CBD on aging skin, it can also benefit breakout-prone complexions. Also, no studies have shown CBD to cause irritation or to aggravate sensitive skin. Existing research has shown CBD beauty products are very safe to use with no unwanted side effects.
Skincare improvement: Recently, a study showed that when replacing skincare products with those of the CBD variety, many reported a drastic decrease in inflammation, skin allergies, rosacea, eczema and psoriasis. The most common explanation is that the anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties of CBD naturally help improve irritating skin conditions.
