Change the Bed Linen Frequently For Best Hygiene
Change the bed sheets regularly to have a good, clean feeling while sleeping. However, surveys confirm that this is not in practice in most of the homes. On average, we tend to change the sheets only every four to six weeks. However, the moisture absorption capacity of the bed linen is usually already exhausted after one to two days of use.
During one night, our body releases on average 1 to 1.5 liters of moisture via the respiratory system and around 7 million pores of the skin. Two-thirds of the moisture release takes place via the skin. Sleepwear, bed linen, bedding, mattress, etc. absorb and dissipate a lot of moisture. The sweat emitted by the body consists of 98% water. The remaining 2% are composed of common salt, urea, tallow and acids (including lactic acid). In order for our skin to properly breathe while sleeping and to be able to excrete the bodily slag unhindered, the bed linen and other bedding must have a good air and moisture permeability.

How Should I take care of the moisture removal of my bed?
1. When buying bed linen, be sure to look for breathable fabrics. Ideal is the highest possible natural fiber content (e.g cotton or silk).
2. If you sweat heavily, change your bedding at least once a week, otherwise every two weeks at the latest.
3. Regularly hang blankets and pillows outside.
However, a lot more is needed to keep mattresses, duvets and pillows in optimal condition for a long time. Here are some important background and tips for bed care:
Bed Care – Tip #1: Well maintained, clean and hygienic mattress
In the morning, make sure that your mattress or your bed system is well ventilated from below so that mold can’t form.
Rotate your mattress with every change of bed linen - Change the headboard and footer sides too. It is also advisable to put the mattress in the sunlight more often to ventilate. This will kill the germs.
Please note: Mattresses made of latex must not be exposed to direct sunlight.
To clean the mattress, we recommend vacuuming with the vacuum cleaner (use low suction force). Use a mild detergent and a soft brush to clean the mattress more thoroughly and give it a fresh scent. Some mattresses also have a washable cover. It is recommended to wash this twice a year.
Mattress pads made of cotton, sheep's wool or hemp are ideal for improving the sleeping climate. This can significantly extend the life of your mattress.
On average, mattresses last about 10 years with good care. Then a new mattress should be purchased.
How to Take Care of Your Mattress
Knock back the duvet after getting up.
Turn the mattress with each change of bed linen and/or turn it over.
Vacuum the mattress occasionally and set it up for ventilation.

Bed Care - Tip #2: Light and feather bedding
Pillows and comforters filled with feathers sometimes show clumping. To break up these clumps, simply open the seam a few inches and use a hair dryer to blow cold air inside the pillow or blanket.
If you have washed down pillows or duvets for thorough cleaning in the washing machine, then put one or two tennis balls in the tumble dryer. The tennis balls ensure that the clump dissolves during drying and pillows or blankets become fluffy again.
Even with proper care and regular ventilation, duvets should not be used for more than 8 years. An exchange should take place after 6 to a maximum of 8 years. Sheepskin wool duvets often retain their impeccable appearance for a long time. After about 6 to 8 years, however, the natural properties of virgin wool are usually lost and a new blanket should be purchased. Duvets and pillows made of other materials (inferior quality) have a much shorter "half-life". They should be disposed of after three years and replaced with new bedding.
Proper care of the duvet
Shake well every day after sleeping and let it lie exposed, do not put a bedspread over it (prevents moisture removal).
Wash twice a year in the washing machine (not possible with animal hair fillings). Put the tennis ball into the dryer, thoroughly dry it.
Replace after 6-8 years.
Bed Care - Tip #3: Free of mites through the night
Mattresses are favorite places of dust mites, as they feed with preference from the dead skin dander. The mites are harmless to healthy people, but cause a lot of disgust, if you look at these arachnids under the microscope. For allergy sufferers, the presence of dust mites is associated with health problems, as they often cause rashes in few people.
To keep the nasty little cuddlers out of the bedroom, the room temperature should not exceed 18 degrees and the humidity should be less than 50 percent. Furthermore, the use of a mite-proof mattress cover is recommended.
Existing dust mites can be combated with neem oil - sometimes also written Neemoil. You can find them at your local pharmacy or drugstore. Spray your mattress with neem oil every two to three days. After four weeks at the latest, you can look forward to a mite-free bed and unadulterated sleeping comfort.
For a Deep sleep
Bedroom temperature should be maintained below 18 °C at a humidity of less than 50%.
Repeated treatment of the mattress with neem oil.
